Journal: Modern Day Macbeth

Who in the modern world (last 120 yrs) is like Macbeth?

I think that Adolf Hitler was a lot like Macbeth. After World War I, Germany was in ruins. Hitler fought in World War I and returned home to a broken economy. He was considered a hero because he brought Germany’s economy up from nothing, and soon rose to power. But that wasn’t the end. Like Macbeth, his ambition got the best of him and he began his quest for world domination. This was the start of World War II. Hitler began taking country after country, invading different parts of Europe, and starting one of the most famous genocides today: the Holocaust. In the end, Hitler and the Axis powers (Germany, Japan, Italy) was losing the war, and Hitler committed suicide, and Germany lost the war.

What started out good, turned sour as greed and ambition overtook him. Hitler is seen as a bad guy, but it wasn’t always that way. He started off as a hero, bringing Germany to power after World War I. It’s a bit eerie how history repeats itself.
